Doc Next screenings and conversation
Together with Doc Next Network, Netwerk Democratie has developed a series of film screenings on a variety of themes. During each event we will show you a selection of short documentaries within one of these themes. Afterwards there will be the opportunity for a discussion with each other on the issues that were put forward in the films.
Migrants have entered European countries but they haven’t entered the public sphere. When they do, it is as characters in other people’s stories - desperate faces, surging hoards and floating bodies - something ‘other’. We rarely hear from migrants as experts or legitimate voices. Doc Next presents a series of short videos highlighting the perspectives of young migrants in Europe. Most of the videos stem from ‘Remapping Europe – a Remix’, an investigative artistic project that contributes to an inclusive cultural practice and public imagery in and of Europe by connecting young creative media-makers who have migrant perspectives from Spain, Poland, Turkey, and the UK. In this project, Doc Next saw remixing as a strategy through which to reconfigure our self-representation as citizens and producers of meaning: to deconstruct a discourse, analyse its parts, its ideology and its message, and then put it back together using creativity, insight, irony, satire, humour or parody in order to reconstruct a narrative that can decipher the ‘hidden curriculum’.
Entrance is free, no registration needed

About Doc Next Network
Doc Next Network was initiated by the European Cultural Foundation in 2010. It brought together MODE Istanbul, ZEMOS98 (Seville), BFI Future Film (London) and Association of Creative Initiatives “ę” (Warsaw) who engage with media makers, activists, researchers, programmers, educators and innovators. Doc Next strives for social justice and inclusive public opinion in Europe, through a common methodology that supports the ideas of access, free culture and expanded education.
Doc Next built up a media collection which includes around 500 short documentaries and other media works by young creators. The ‘Doc Next Network Media Collection’ opens an unusual window on contemporary Europe. It is accessible on Vimeo and a resource space.
