The nine artists from Algeria, Turkey and the UK – Sofiane Belaskri, Mahmoud Benameur, Hannah Berry, ILYA, Daniel Locke, Murat Mıhçıoğlu, Soumeya Ouarezki, Cem Özüduru and Naz Tansel – use their distinctive styles and viewpoints to ‘reframe’ perspectives on Europe. Through their graphic short stories they examine and expose the cultural, social and political dynamics between Europe and each of their own countries.
Click on the artist portraits above to read their biographies, statements about their work and the two-page comics they have made for the Reframe exhibition.
The exhibition was originally supported by an ECF collaboration grant and presented by Comica, Istanbulles with Studio Rodeo, FIBDA, and Free Word in association with ARTICLE 19 and Booktrust with the support by Arts Council England.
Originally curated by Canan Marasligil, Paul Gravett and Megan Donnolley, it has now been repurposed for the Philanthropy House in Brussels by Canan Marasligil and Judith van Ingen for ECF.
