Charles Landry: Civic City

  • Pakhuis de Zwijger Piet Heinkade Amsterdam, NH Netherlands (map)

What are we supposed to think of our future cities? Apprehension is in the air as we invent a different kind of city. This is 'The Civic City in a Nomadic World’. It’s a verbal and visual story of the delights and discontents of the contemporary city. Charles Landry aims to start a conversation about the promise of a different urban civilization with his new book. As cities need an overarching narrative that is positive, global, yet binds people to how they live. One were day to day behavior melts with civic life.

Due to unforeseen circumstances - and contrary to an earlier announcement - ECF R&D grantee Daniela Patti can not join the conversation. Her work as part of the Eutropian team - she was co-editor of the book 'Funding the Cooperative City' which explores experiments in community-led urban development in European cities - nonetheless is very relevant to tonight's discussion.
